La Mère tourne la tête de côté et serre son visage contre la joue de l'enfant. Celui-ci tient d'une main le Rouleau des Ecritures, de l'autre le bord du voile de la Mère. L'expression de grande affection maternelle que traduit cette réprésentation est complétée par le sens symbolique du rouleau des Ecritures:l'enfant est le fils de Dieu, le Logos. Seules la tête et les mains sont représentées.

The Mother turns her head sideways and presses her face to the cheek of the child, who holds the Roller of Writings in one hand and the edge of his Mother's veil in the other. This expression of great motherly love that is represented is supplemented by the symbolic representation of the Roller of Writings: the child is the son of God, the Logos. Only faces and hands are represented.

Devant le Temple de Jérusalem ou Marie a été élevée, l’Archange Gabriel, muni du bâton de messager divin, les ailes et le manteau flottant au vent, léger dans sa démarche aérienne, tend vers la Vierge le bras droit en un geste oratoire : « Réjouis-toi, comblée de grâce, le Seigneur est avec toi, ne crains pas » Marie ne tourne que légèrement la tête vers lui. Son visage reflète la question « Comment cela se fera-t-il ? » D’une main elle tient la quenouille et élève l’autre, paume ouverte en geste d’écoute active et étonnée. Sur son manteau fleurissent les 3 étoiles qui indiquent sa virginité avant, pendant et après son enfantement. Au dessus du Temple figure la sphère divine dont les 3 rayons expriment la Ste Trinité.

Mary turns slightly her head to him. Her face express this question " How will it be done ?" She holds a distaff in one hand and raises the other one opened in a gesture of active and amazed listening.
